Guide: On June 5th, the 2018 China Copper Processing Industry Annual Conference and the China Copper Industry Huangshi Summit Forum jointly hosted by China Nonferrous Metals Processing Industry Association and Huangshi Municipal Government of Hubei Province were held in Huangshi, Hubei. At the theme report meeting held on the same day, many experts and scholars jointly discussed copper processing

The direction of industrial restructuring and industrial upgrading, summing up the industry's innovation experience and existing problems, predicting the impact of upstream and downstream industry chain development trends on the copper processing industry, conducting a profound analysis of relevant issues and making a wonderful report, expecting to comprehensively enhance the innovation of copper processing enterprises. Ability and refined management capabilities to promote high-quality development of the industry.

Development Status and Trend of China's Copper Processing Industry

Secretary General and Vice Chairman of China Nonferrous Metals Processing Industry Association Zhang Jilin

The overall situation of China's copper processing industry is mainly as follows: the economic operation index is stable, the profit is slightly increased, and the overall profit rate of the industry is still low. However, compared with 2016, the debt ratio has decreased; the output has increased year by year, and the output of each sub-category has increased; Long-term net import, import substitution is slow. The strips, foils, rods and wires are all net imports, and copper and copper clad are net exports.

Among them, the output of copper strips has increased year by year, and the industrial concentration is low. The top 20 enterprises in the production output totaled 1.08 million tons, accounting for 39.7% of the country. The industrial concentration is low-concentration competition. The leading enterprises are Anhui Chujiang Science and Technology New Materials Co., Ltd. and Ningbo Xingye Shengtai Group Co., Ltd. 100,000 tons. Imports have increased in the past three years, and almost all of the sub-categories are net imports, and the replacement of imports of copper strips is grim. The capacity expansion is moderate and high-end. In the next 3 to 5 years, China's copper strip industry will have a wave of transformation and upgrading, approaching the world's advanced level. At the same time, several international advanced enterprises will appear and participate in international competition.

The output of foils has increased year by year, and the industrial concentration is high. In 2017, the output of copper foil was 406,000 tons, of which the output of electrolytic copper foil was 337,000 tons; the output of 10 domestic electrolytic copper foil enterprises reached 264,000 tons, accounting for 82.5% of the total output of domestic electrolytic copper foil. Imports of foil materials have increased year by year in the past three years. In 2017, it imported 138,000 tons of copper foil, including 118,400 tons of electronic copper foil. In electronic copper foil, it imported 84,000 tons from Taiwan and 19,000 tons from South Korea. The new capacity of the foil is relatively fast, and the domestic high-end market share of copper foil is extremely low. Many domestic copper foil enterprises have shifted their business focus to lithium battery copper foil. However, overseas (foreign-funded) copper foil companies have increased their market share in high-end, high-performance, and special electronic circuit copper foils, reaching more than 90%. CCL imports are high-end, low-end exports, and the trade volume is net imports. Although the CCL has been in a net export status since 2012, the export volume has decreased year by year, the import unit price has increased year by year, and far exceeds the export unit price. The actual trade volume is the trade deficit.

The production of copper rods has increased year by year, and the industrial concentration is low. The copper rod is only the leading company Ningbo Jintian Copper (Group) Co., Ltd., with a production capacity of 163,000 tons. The industrial concentration is low concentration competition. Copper rod profiles have always been net imports, and the largest imports are brass rods. Copper rods imported 62,000 tons in 2017 and exported 0.9 million tons, of which 55,300 tons were imported from brass rods and profiles.

The output of copper pipes has increased year by year. The two leading enterprises Jinlong Precision Copper Tube Group Co., Ltd. and Hailiang Group have a total output of 920,000 tons, accounting for 35% of the total domestic production, and the industrial concentration is relatively high. Copper pipes are net exports. In the import of copper pipes, the refined copper pipe with an outer diameter of more than 70 mm is also a net import. In 2017, the import volume was 10,200 tons, and the import volume increased year by year, and the export decreased in the past three years.

The output of copper wire has increased year by year. The top 20 enterprises in the production capacity have a total capacity of 7.28 million tons, a production of 5.28 million tons, and 7 of them over 700,000 tons. The average comprehensive capacity utilization rate is 72.5%. The industrial concentration is low concentration and oligopoly. Copper wire is a net import, but imports have decreased year by year in the past three years, and exports have increased.

Looking at the situation and development trend facing the development of the industry, the first is to prevent corporate financial risks, prudent investment, and avoid mutual guarantee. The National Development and Reform Commission proposed that corporate bonds in 2018 should put risk prevention at the top of their work. Second, environmental protection has a "one-vote veto system", and environmental protection should be placed in an important position. The import of scrap copper is limited, a series of environmental laws have been introduced, and the accountability of environmental accidents has increased. Third, international trade protectionism has re-emerged. Relevant important electronic components in the field of copper processing, copper foil and foil raw materials rely on imports, and copper pipes are subject to anti-dumping. Independent innovation should be strengthened. Fourth, the pace of industrial restructuring has been further accelerated. As a capital and technology-intensive industry, copper processing has high financing costs. Large-scale enterprises will show a trend of scale and internationalization, while small and medium-sized enterprises will develop into specialization and specialization. The fifth is the transfer of some copper processing industries to the central and western regions. With the implementation of the strategy for the development of the western region, the western region has the advantages of labor, cost, land, raw materials, policies, and markets. The production bases of some copper processing enterprises in China have shifted to the central and western regions. Sixth, the rise of emerging industries has opened up new development directions for the copper processing industry. China's emerging industries are still in the cultivation stage as a whole. The copper processing industry should take the initiative to actively serve emerging industries such as emerging information industry, bio-industry, new energy, high-end equipment manufacturing and new materials, energy conservation and environmental protection, and develop copper materials for emerging industries. To increase the added value of products and seize the high-end market in emerging areas.

At present, the main problems in the industry are: high-end product development has not been broken, the implementation of import substitution process is slow; high-end equipment and testing equipment rely on imports; subject to the rigid constraints of domestic resources, energy, environment, cost and other factors, China's copper processing international comparative advantage It is gradually declining; some products have serious isomorphism, resulting in vicious competition for prices, and the profitability of enterprises is not strong; the rise in copper prices will have a certain impact on the long-term development of copper processing.

In response to these problems, the countermeasures proposed by the industry are: encourage independent innovation, strengthen technology research and development, promote copper production to a high-quality development stage, catch up with and exceed the international advanced level; improve the level of equipment localization, avoid being subject to people; Integration, improve the modern manufacturing level of the copper processing industry; deepen the supply-side structural reform, encourage mergers and acquisitions in the copper processing industry, and resolve excess capacity.
